In the thriller Aurora, Leana (played by Anne Curtis) and her younger sister, Rita, opt to stay on an island however there supposedly peaceful sat suddenly turns dark when a ship named Aurora crashes. Pagpag: Siyam na Buhay

Pagpag: Siyam na Buhay centers on the premise and importance of following certain Philippine superstitions as they appear to be more than just mere beliefs and traditions. Sunod

Carmina Villaroel stars as Olivia in this creepy yet visually brilliant horror film that centers on a woman’s quest to do everything in her power to help and save her daughter from a deadly illness. Olivia lacks the financial resources to fund her daughter’s hospital bills and therefore decides to take a job in a call center. The late hours seem grueling and difficult for Olivia as she begins to “hallucinate” during her long shifts. As the movie moves forward we discover that these hallucinations are in fact real and are brought about by a malevolent force that haunts the call center and those who work in the said building.

Kwaresma

Erik Matti’s horror movie, Kwaresma, centers on Luis Fajardo played by Kent Gonzales, who returns to his home in Baguio to mourn the death of his twin sister. He is welcomed by his parents—Rebecca played by Sharon Cuneta and Arturo played by John Arcilla—into their family, but they remain silent regarding the truth about the death of his sister. The twists and turns keep on coming in this movie with the overall mood and tone providing a consistent scare for viewers. The story is quite simple at first glance but embedded deep within the story are beautifully ladened symbolisms that make Erik Matti well known as a director who provides depth in each of his stories.
