We all know Commonwealth as the go-to sneaker and streetwear store, with branches in SM Aura, Greenbelt 5, and Rockwell. Prior to these Manila-based shops, Commonwealth began back in 2004 as a sneaker shop and clothing boutique in Norfolk, Virginia.
While they carry brands such as Nike, Adidas, Stone Island, Stüssy, Dime, and A.P.C., Commonwealth sometimes collaborate with these brands. Last year, Commonwealth has collaborated with Adidas Consortium for two iterations of the Adidas ZX 500 RM.
For this year, the partnership is back again, this time focusing on the Response CL.
The sneaker is a marriage between the late ’90s runner silhouette and contemporary color blocking. At first glance, the sneaker’s colorway may seem underwhelming, but this instantly proves wrong as the rest of the shoe is unveiled. While the lateral makes use of two main colors—cream and navy, the medial side displays a more colorful perspective with suede panels of light olive, orange, light town, brown, and navy.
Overall, the asymmetry, translucent-striped lateral side, dual branding, gum outsole, and the clean white interior offers an experience to those viewing and wearing the shoe. Like the ethos of Commonwealth itself, the sneaker is more than meets the eye. As you enter their subtle storefront, you’re met with varying brands and products. With the Commonwealth x adidas Response CL, a surprise awaits as you explore the sneaker.
Scheduled to drop this November 21, the pair will be made available exclusively at their store in Manila along with the other flagship locations in Virginia Beach, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles.
