Don’t Blame the Kids Apparel (DBTK) has had some pretty awesome collaborations in the past that includes the Sesame Street collection that dropped last October. Things now go artsy in their latest collab with multi-awarded Filipino artist, Lynyrd Parasβknown for depicting people and experiences in the pieces he composes. His work has been exhibited in the Philippines, Malaysia, and in Singapore. For this recent collaboration entitled Puting Anino (White Shadow), the collection explores looking inside oneself to find the light, amidst walking in darkness.
As Paras explains the concept behind the collaboration.
(When you are walking in a world filled with darkness, you are being blind sighted and do not know which direction you are taking because of the absence of light. Thatβs why you should start looking deep within you and find the light. Then, start to walk again, open your eyes in the dark, follow the white shadow that is you.)
DBTK further explains that the designs consist of positive and negative aspects that embody a person. “It is about choosing between being engulfed by the darkness that flows within you, or doing your best to step into the light, [and] It is also about finding the right balance of not being eaten by darkness, and at the same time not being overwhelmed by the light.”
The collection comprises of a mask, three t-shirt designs, a tumbler, a jacket, and button-down tees in 2 different designsβthe latteronly available for sale through a raffle system).
The art in the collection is fantastic, and I love how its placement complements the look for garment and accessories without drowning it or overwhelming the observer.
Proof of the appeal of the collection are those sold out badges all over the DBTK site. Yes, just several days after its launch last January 9, everything is sold out.
