If you had something close to Php 2 million to drop, how would you spend it? Some would probably say they’d buy an airplane ticket to their dream destination for a vacation. Better yet, why not buy the plane itself…with the Louis Vuitton Airplane Bag.
In January of this year, the French fashion house started selling an airplane-shaped bag with four engines and two wings made out of leather in the iconic monogram pattern. Now, you may be wondering who came up with such a design. Virgil Abloh did it. In an interview with Vogue, he had this to say:
“A tourist is someone who is eager to learn, who wants to see the Eiffel Tower when they go to Paris. While the purist is the person who knows everything about everything ”
Abloh’s response insinuated the inspiration of the entire collection: “tourist vs. purist”. Despite being released way back in January, the release of the $39,000 (~Php 1.9 million) airplane bag made its rounds around the internet only recently as fans were quick to let others know how they felt about the piece. And while we’re trying to stay open-minded about Virgil Abloh’s artistic intentions, they do have a point. Many fans listed what they would rather do with such a big sum of money, and one even said “You can buy an actual plane for less.”
Although Php 1.9 million probably won’t get you a commercial airplane like that of the inspiration of the bag, it can get you something like a second-hand light aircraft. Not compromising the best part, the light aircraft can actually fly.
Whether it’s a publicity stunt or a serious fashion piece, there is some genius behind the bag. But before you go out and buy yourself one, make sure to think twice!
