With the announcement of the Space Hippie Collection, Nike is serious in launching environmentally-sustainable sneakers through the use of recycled materials. The Space Hippie Collection debuted Nike’s Grind Rubber—which is created from recycled surplus manufacturing materials and athletic footwear.
Expect Nike to use Grind Rubber in its future sneakers, with the Air Force 1 being the first to do so.
Called the Air Force 1 Crater, this upcoming model uses Nike Grind Rubber for the entire outsole, giving it a unique, speckled look.
The use of Nike Grind does not stop there: the sustainable material is also used on the heel tab and tongue tag, giving also the same unique speckled look.
Aside from its use of sustainable materials, the Air Force 1 Crater is a premium sneaker with its white tumbled leather upper that is paired with a metallic silver Swoosh.
There’s no definite release date and price for this new Air Force 1 model, but expect it to be slightly more expensive than your typical Air Force 1s.
