While Donald Glover is not doing any new music under his stage name Childish Gambino, the multi-hyphenate artist is busy with endeavors like producing Atlanta and working on a number of TV shows. Filling up his impressive resume is his collaboration with New Balance, where he introduced the RC30 in his socials.
The RC30 draws inspiration from the Trackster, a vintage New Balance running shoe from the 70s. It tweaks the DNA of the Trackster, where you get curves and lines on the upper, which is made from suede and nylon to exhibit that vintage vibe. The outsole has a sharper sawtooth appearance while keeping the original ripple sole design of the Trackster.
The retro-inspired sneaker is identifiable by the trademark N logo that’s dressed in textured leather, while color options include Golden Hour and Sea Salt. Overall, the RC30 is a sneaker that presents an experimental approach to functional minimalism. “No loud colors or branding, just classic, easy-to-wear colorways of a new silhouette that fit Donald’s style,” New Balance Global Collaborations & Energy Projects Business Unit Manager Joe Grondin said.
As a highly-anticipated sneaker, especially with the RC30 being co-introduced with Glover, New Balance is set to make it available on July 8 exclusively via Market by Gilga, followed by a wider launch at New Balance online and select retailers on July 18 for $120(~Php 6.8k).
