While Kanye West has been quite busy building his fashion career–with his collaboration with GAP as the main focus–Yeezy still has time to create new music. Two years after the gospel-themed Jesus is King, Kanye West is back with a new album entitled Donda, and it will be Kanye’s 10th studio album.
Kanye’s latest album pays tribute to his mother Donda West, who died in 2007 following surgery complications. As a teaser, Kanye released a minute-long audio snippet featuring Sha’Carri Richardson, who is the fastest woman in America.
From the audio snippet, the song (entitled No Child Left Behind) is reminiscent of Kanye’s work during the My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy era back in 2010.
That by itself should entice fans of Kanye’s discography, as the MBDTF era is hailed has one of his best works, only rivaled by 2007’s Graduation. As an avid fan of Kanye West, the late 2000s was his artistic peak, and his albums after that (Yeezus, The Life of Pablo, Ye, Jesus is King) was a time where he is more experimental with his music–leading to mixed reviews from both fans and critics.
With everything that is happening to Kanye as of late, ranging from his separation from Kim Kardashian, his bipolar disorder diagnosis, to his questionable support for former US President Donald Trump, it is a pleasure to see Yeezy trying to get back on track with music.
While we do not know other details about Donda like how many songs will be in the album, Kanye West will be holding an album listening even on July 22 in the US, which will be livestreamed globally via Apple. The album is set to drop on July 23, and we still do not know if it will be exclusive to Apple, or if other platforms like Spotify will carry it.
Nonetheless, we will try to get our hands on the album and give it our honest review–so stay tuned for that!
