Netflix has got your anime binge-watching experience for the next months up until 2022, covered. The streaming juggernaut, Netflix, got the ball rolling for TUDUM, with its pre-show TUDUM: Anime Spotlight. The segment was hosted by VTuber, N-ko Mei Kurono, or N-ko, an anime character who happens to be Netflix’s first Anime Ambassador. Indeed, it was exciting event that gave fans a lot to look forward to.
Anime Spotlight Highlights
The opening segment was filled with fun and exciting surprises. It featured several upcoming anime shows, including Super Crooks, Aggretsuko, Ultraman, Bright: Samurai Soul, A Whisker Away, and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie.
Super Crooks
The TUDUM: Anime Spotlight Pre-event kicked offed with Super Crooks, a series uniquely centering on the villains. In this segment, show creator Mark Millar (Kick-Ass, Jupiter’s Legacy) and director Motonobu Hori (Carole and Tuesday) interviewed each other and shared their thoughts on the upcoming anime.
“Wouldn’t it be cool to have something on the bad guys? Because I love movies like Goodfellas and The Godfather and so on,” Millar shared.
Millar continued to say that Super Crooks is for anyone who loves crime stories and for those who have gotten bored of superhero flicks – here’s one where the villains take center stage.
Ultraman Art
Ultraman‘s upcoming 2nd season is finally happening on 2022. Apart from that announcement, series teaser art was also showcased. The upcoming season will revolve around Ultraman’s son, Shinjiro Hayata, who takes over the hero mantle from his father after the former leaves Earth. Shinjiro joins forces with his comrades Seven and Ace as they fight against enemies such as Ace Killer or Add.
Aggretsuko Season 4
Coming this December is Season 4 of Aggretsuko, a tale about the daily life of a 25-year-old office worker red panda, who turns into Aggretsuko and sings heavy metal when she gets frustrated.
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie Panel
One of the large chunks of the program was dedicated to Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal: The Movie and its global voice cast, comprising of countries such as Japan, the United States, Germany, Brazil, Spain, Italy, and Mexico. Guest hosting this part of the program was Never Have I Ever‘s Maitreyi Ramakrishna who confesses that she is a fan of the anime franchise as well.
Kotono Mitsuishi, the original voice of Sailor Moon shared her first encounter with the iconic character as well as some of her thoughts on the series: “I was an inexperienced newcomer. I had no idea this series would become so popular worldwide. I’ve come to realize that the international fans helped me recognize how wonderful this series is.”
“I think what makes Sailor Moon so beloved is her heart.” USA English Voice Stephanie Sheh added in the segment.
Bright: Samurai Soul
Things get mythical with Bright: Samurai Soul, a series set between the Edo and Meiji period of Japan which follows a ronin who has lost his purpose in life, an orc who is now sick of killing people, and an elf girl with a wand that has special powers. The event also showed a teaser of Miyavi – Koketsu in action as voices the show’s villain, Koketsu.
Bright: Samurai Soul is also a spin-off to the Netflix original film, Bright, starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton.
Studio Colorido
Before the TUDUM: Anime Spotlight Pre-event ended, Studio Colorido showcased their film A Whisker Away, starring Miyo Sasaki, a female protagonist who is given a mask by a sketchy mask seller during a festival. This mask gives her the power to turn into a cat whenever she wears it. A Whisker Away is Studio Colorido’s first full-length feature. The company will soon release the third film in 2022, Drifting Home.
